India’s exports to Latin America amounted to $12.74 billion in 2020-21 (April-March), according to the figures released by the Commerce Ministry of India.  India’s total global exports have declined by 7% from $313 billion to $291 billion in the same period. Brazil continued as the number 1 destination of India’s exports to the region, with shipments valued at $4.25 billion.

Banning single-use plastic. Policies announced in haste are an opportunity gone to waste. It was in the course of his Independence Day speech this year that the Prime Minister made a statement that held out much hope for those concerned about the degradation of the environment. “Can we free India from single-use plastic? The time for implementing such an idea has come. May teams be mobilised to work in this direction. Let a significant step be made on October 2nd,” the PM said, leading to widespread speculation that India would take its first decisive step towards being plastic-free on Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.

India can benefit as China’s shipments are becoming expensive. India can achieve more than 8% growth rate in a sustained manner if it takes steps to revive investments and make exports competitive, said Asian Development Bank Economist Abhijit Sen Gupta.

Indian rice exporters to gain market share

Indian rice exporters to gain market share.The credit profile of rice exporters is likely to improve over the near-to-medium term due to increase in market share following production shortfall in parts of South Asia, India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) said in a report.

"Credit profile of rice exporters to improve over the near-to-medium term on the back of increased market share, higher realisations and improved liquidity. Significant production shortfall in parts of South Asia is likely to result in a substantial gain in market share by various Indian exporters," Ind-Ra said.

India eyes African nations to increase export of non-basmati rice. Looking at continuous rise in the country’s rice production, Union Commerce Ministry has asked the All India Rice Exporters Association (AIREA) to explore the possibility of finding new markets as well as to scale up in existing market, said a newspaper report.
